Choisir votre assistant
Votre assistant travaillera avec vous dès le premier jour, depuis le moment où vous établirez votre "plan de bataille" pour entrer dans la situation phobogène jusqu'à ce que vous puissiez vous débrouiller seul. Voici ce que l'on attend d'un assistant:
Examiner les caractéristiques de votre phobie et en discuter avec vous.
Vous aidez à planifier chaque séance et à déterminer l'étape que vous croyez pouvoir franchir au cours de celle-ci, dans la situation phobogène. N'oubliez pas que la dernière décision vous appartient; toutefois, se sentir épaulé est stimulant et très agréable. Vous parlerez avec votre assistant de vos idées, de vos hésitations, de vos sentiments et il pourra vous faire de très bonnes suggestions.
Choisir et décider, avec vous, quelles seront les activités spécifiques (nous les appelons les "outils") que vous devrez accomplir dans la situation phobogène afin de fixer votre attention sur les éléments qui vous sont familiers, vous rassurent et vous tranquillisent.
Vous accompagner, chaque fois que vous le désirerez, lorsque vous vous exposerez à la situation phobogène. Sa présence vous rassurera quand vous vous trouverez dans une de ces situations que vous avez si longtemps évitées.
Rester près de vous, si c'est nécessaire, tout le temps où vous serez dans la situation phobogène. Plus tard, vous essaierez d'agir seul, pendant de courts moments, et il demeurera dans les alentours au cas où vous auriez besoin de lui.
Ne pas jouer un rôle passif et vous aider réellement: vous rassurer quand vous êtes effrayé; vous demander de parler de ce que vous pensez ou ressentez; vous encourager lorsque vous progressez; vous aider à donner une valeur numérique de 0 à 10 à l'intensité de votre peur; vous rappeler les choses rassurantes que vous pouvez faire lorsque votre esprit est confus et que vous ne vous souvenez plus du programme établi; vous réconforter par une rassurante petite tape sur l'épaule ou en vous offrant son bras ou sa main.
